How far is Athens airport to the attractions in Athens?

How far are all the attractions like the Parthanon (dont laugh! I think thats how you spell it) and all the other sights away from the airport at Athens...Is the airport miles and miles out of the city? Also, looking for a flight from Crete (Chania). Who are the cheapest airlines or charter flights. Thanks for looking in.
