Hello,
we found a solution for playing AOE3 over VPN without disabling any network connection, but we tested it with only 2 users.
needed: one pptp-server, eg. poptop under linux
Both users have different subnets, eg. 192.168.1.0/24 and 192.168.2.0/24, in this example they have 192.168.1.2 and 192.168.2.3.
Configure the vpn-server to use a subnet like 192.168.10.0/24
First, start the vpn-server and connect both clients to it. For instance, we get 192.168.10.1 and 192.168.10.2.
You have to choose which lan-subnet you want to use. In my example, it is 192.168.2.0/24.
The other client (from 192.168.1.2) has to add another ip from the other subnet for his lan-interface, eg. 192.168.2.20.
Then you have to go to the command prompt and add a route to the other subnet:
route add 192.168.2.3 192.168.10.1 (192.168.10.1 is the ip-adress assigned through the vpn).
AOE3 uses the second assigned IP-adress of the ethernet-adapter, so it thinks the other client is in the same subnet.
Perhaps it also works with Hamachi and adding second ip-adresses routed over the hamachi-ip, we havent tested it yet.
